Using the Editor Window

To get to a specific button group, use these links...

I. In the first set of buttons, the Bold, Italics, and Underline work as in any standard text editor. Style Text offers additional editing features, and Add Comment allows you to comment on the page to your collaborators.

  • Highlight a section of text, such as this text on the next line...
    • example - this text is highlighted
  • Now click the Style Textbutton.
  • It opens a window for more style effects.
  • In the example, the font selected is Comic Sans MS text
  • Click in the Background Color section to get offered color choices.
  • Lastly, center the alignment.

Add Comment button
This button helps you add a comment to your document.
  1. Highlight the text to comment
  2. Click the Add Comment button to add a comment to the Discussion section of this page.
  3. To delete the comment, one method is to remove the highlighted text and re-enter it without a comment.
  4. Wiki users can read/reply to a comment thread in the Discussion section for the page.
  5. Example...‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍comment added on bullet item 5‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍...and thread added to Discussion section as shown...
  6. This will add a comment symbol at the top of the page
    1. clicking on the comment symbol shows the comment in the right margin at the line where the text was highlighted for comments
      1. Note: Having inconsistent results with this feature!!
    2. comments are posted to the DISCUSSION tab for each page
    3. each contributor can view and reply to comments
    4. they are efficient for sharing notes between contributors on the content during development

II. The next set of buttons again provide standard text editing features.

  • Choose font style - choices are Headings 1-6 and Normal
  • Insert Numbered List - like this...
    1. first line
    2. second line
    3. third line
  • Insert Bulleted List
    • this whole list is an example
  • Insert Horizontal Rule
    • cannot be in a list
    • cannot figure out how to change width

III. The next set of buttons allow you to add items to the page from outside the Wiki...

Link button - Insert Link
Choices include
  • Wiki Link - linking to a page in this wiki (see next button description for example)
  • External Link - linking to an external page... link to Dr. Holland's IT743 Web 2.0 Collaboration Toolscourse page.
  • Anchor - linking to an anchor on this page

File button - Insert Images and Files - See our Adding Images page for a detailed example!Widget button - Embed WidgetThis feature allows you to embed items like YouTube and other web destinations here.See our Adding Videos page in this wiki for a detailed example!
Table button - Insert Table
The last button in this group allows you to add a table into the page...

IV. The fourth group of buttons again are simple features.

Undo - Simply, undo your last change. undoredo.png Redo - Simply, redo a change after clicking the Undo button

V. The final group include the important buttons to help you Save or Cancel changes, and Preview the page.

Preview button
This button opens a preview of the page in the wiki as long as you have permissions. It seemed to work if you are an originator or creator, but was inconsistent if you are just a member.
Cancel button - Cancel changes since the last Save and leave the editor.
Save button - Saves changes to the pageThere are 3 options...
  • Save with comments - save the page with a comment such as "July 3 draft"
  • Save and continue - save and continue editing
  • Wikitext editor - open the page in html in a text editor to see all the page coding and make changes
